  General Information

What Is An Allergy?

An allergy is your body's reaction to a substance it can't tolerate. It may be a seasonal reaction to something in the air, or an ongoing reaction to something in your environment.

Normally, your body's immune system produces antibodies to protect you from foreign substances.

But if you are allergic, you produce too much of the antibody, IgE. This releases harmful chemicals throughout your body, which causes your specific allergy symptoms.

Who Gets Allergies?
ANYONE ... Allergies are not limited to age, sex or geographic locations. Infants have been known to develop symptoms shortly after birth.

But you do not have to be born with an allergy to be allergic. You can, at any time and for no obvious reason, become allergic to something that has never been a problem before.
