Karen J. Fong, M.D. Dr. Fong earned both her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Biological Sciences from Stanford University, in Palo Alto, California. She then went on to obtain her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine, in Houston, Texas. Following this, Dr. Fong completed both an internship with the Department of Surgery as well as residency in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at Northwestern University, in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Fong is a Fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, the American College of Surgeons, and the American Rhinologic Society. She is affiliated with Stanford University Hospital, San Ramon Regional Medical Center, John Muir Medical Center, and St. Francis Memorial Hospital. A highly trained and skilled board-certified otolaryngologist, Dr. Karen Fong has extensive experience both as a clinician and researcher in disorders of the ear, nose and throat. Dr. Fong specializes in disorders of the nose and sinuses. She has practiced in the Walnut Creek area since 2008, where she works at the California Sinus Centers, an affiliate of Sacramento Ear, Nose and Throat. Prior to that, she served for eight years as a specialist in rhinology and sinus surgery at the Oregon Sinus Center at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Fong’s special clinical interests include treatment of chronic sinusitis, nasal polyps, endoscopic sinus surgery, computerized CT navigation, and loss of the ability to smell. Dr. Fong has been involved in extensive and award-winning scientific research in the spectrum of disorders relating to the ear, nose and throat, and much of her research has been published in national peer-reviewed medical journals. In addition, she is an accomplished teacher, and has made numerous presentations on important developments in otolaryngology to physicians across the United States. Dr. Fong currently serves as an Adjunct Clinical Professor in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Stanford University and is on the Board of Directors of the American Rhinologic Society. She serves on multiple national committees for the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and the American Rhinologic Society. In addition, she served previously for many years as Assistant Professor, Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon.
