Board-certified in ophthalmology and fellowship trained in and neuro-ophthalmology and oculo-plastics, Kimberly Cockerham M.D., F.A.C.S., has been providing her patients with exceptional medical care since 1983. Dr. Cockerham's offices fulfill her dream of providing that care in a relaxing setting. In her own words, "I have always wanted to create a nurturing environment that pampers my patients in a way that parallels my personalized concern for their medical needs.” Her clinical interests include eyelid and facial rejuvenation, thyroid eye disease, eyelid oncology, double vision, and decreased vision due to optic nerve dysfunction.  In recognition of her medical expertise, Dr. Cockerham has received numerous honors and awards, including being voted “Best of the Best” for Laser Eyelid Rejuvenation by San Jose Magazine (2008), Best Doctors in America (2007-2008), and  Lifetime Achievement Who’s Who in Medicine (2007).

 Dr. Cockerham's private practice in several Bay Area offices is focused on personalized care within a pampered setting.  Her Los Altos med spa site combines the facial services of a licensed aesthetician with the most advanced medical facial rejuvenation techniques.  Her neuro-orbit services cater to patients with thyroid eye disease, orbital tumors, increased intracranial pressure, double vision due to cranial nerve palsies/myasthenia gravis/adult strabismus, and visual loss due to optic nerve disorders.

To meet patient needs for the most advanced care available, Dr. Cockerham actively keeps current in plastics, orbit, and neuro-ophthalmology.  A passionate educator as well as practitioner, she is the co-director of the annual Bay Area Ophthalmology course at Stanford as well as Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor, Department of  Ophthalmology, Stanford University School of Medicine.  Dr. Cockerham is also an elected member of several prestigious medical societies, and teaches at annual national meetings throughout the country. In addition, she has published over 100 peer-reviewed abstracts, papers, chapters and a book.

Dr. Cockerham is also extensively involved in various areas of ongoing clinical research. She is a co-investigator in the Veteran’s Administration (VA) Polytrauma Study, which is investigating the impact of blast injuries on veterans of the Afghanistan and Iraq War. In addition, her Department of Defense (DOD) grant is providing ongoing funding for her Reanimation project administered through PAIRE at the Palo Alto VA.  She states, "Our research team includes Stanford, UC Berkeley and UC Santa Cruz engineers, and was provided with generous funding to develop nano-technology implants that will advance current medical and surgical therapies in both of my subspecialty areas." Dr. Cockerham is also the principal investigator in prospective studies to design clinical activity scores, quality of life measures, and other tools to better evaluate treatment effectiveness in patients with thyroid eye disease.

Dr. Cockerham was raised in San Mateo and attended University of California San Diego (Revelle College), graduating with Cum Laude honors. As an officer in the United States Army, she obtained her medical degree from George Washington University Medical School, graduating with Alpha Omega Alpha honors. She completed her internship in general surgery, residency in ophthalmology, and two fellowships in neuro-ophthalmology and oculo-plastics/orbital disease.

Dr. Cockerham is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society (NANOS), and the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.   She performs surgeries at Stanford, Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital, El Camino Hospital, Dominican Hospital, Coastal ASC and Waverly ASC.

She is married to Glenn Cockerham, Chair of Ophthalmology at the Palo Alto VA, and has two children, Alex and Drew, and a Pug named Yoda.
