Dr. Winston Vaughan is a board-certified, Johns Hopkins and Stanford-trained otolaryngologist who has been in practice in the S.F. Bay Area since 1998. He serves as the Founder and Director of the California Sinus Centers & Institute – www.calsinus.com. Calsinus is a clinical, educational and research entity which is dedicated to the development of state-of-the-art treatment options for sinus patients, including performing of the first live balloon sinuplasty in the United States, providing training for many surgeons, and providing premier care to its clients. Calsinus is an affiliate of Sacramento Ear, Nose and Throat.

Prior to founding the California Sinus Centers and Institute, Dr. Vaughan started the Stanford Sinus Center, the first center on the West Coast to offer comprehensive medical and surgical care for chronic sinusitis by a fellowship-trained otolaryngologist. He trains other surgeons in this field. He has worked at Memorial Medical Center, St. Joseph’s and Candler Hospitals in Georgia. In California, he has worked at Stanford Hospital, Palo Alto Veterans’ Hospital, Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital, John Muir Medical Center, Sequoia Hospital and the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. He has taught not only in the United States, but also in several countries including Jamaica, Egypt, Mexico, Trinidad, the Bahamas and Canada.

Clinical interests of Dr. Vaughan include emerging trends in sinus surgery, such as use of new devices and tools and the development of improved methods for computer-assisted endoscopic sinus surgery. His clinical interests also extend to pharmacological innovations in the treatment of sinus disease, including the use of topical medications and the use of alternative therapies in sinus management. In addition, Dr. Vaughan is an experienced teacher - he has led numerous courses in new trends and treatment options for sinus problems. Dr. Vaughan has also been involved in research, and has had numerous articles published in peer-reviewed national journals. He has served both on the Board of Directors and as a consultant for the American Rhinologic Society.

Dr. Vaughan earned his undergraduate degree at John Hopkins University, and then went on to earn his medical degree at Stanford School of Medicine. Following that, he went on to complete both a general surgery internship and then a residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Stanford University Medical Center.

Dr. Vaughan is a Fellow with the American Board of Otolaryngology-head and Neck Surgery and with the American Rhinologic Society. He does surgeries at Stanford Hospital, John Muir Medical Center, Waverley Surgery Center and Sequoia Hospital.
In his free time, he swims, lifts weights, sleeps, plays squash and enjoys the great food, people and places of Northern California.
