Face lift (rhytidectomy)
What is a face lift (rhytidectomy)?
A face lift, or rhytidectomy, is cosmetic surgery that removes facial wrinkles, sagging skin, fat deposits, and other visible signs of aging. This procedure will restore a more youthful and vibrant appearance by improving the face, neck, and jaw area. By firming up muscle tone, smoothing the skin, and restoring an attractive facial contour, face lift surgery can make someone look and feel years younger.
Unlike older, less sophisticated face lift techniques which only tightened facial skin, surgical techniques used today also take into account the underlying structures of the face. This approach creates less tension on the skin, helps the face lift last longer, and results in a much more natural look. The addition of laser skin resurfacing and injectibles such as Botox™ can also enhance results by minimizing fine lines and increasing the overall youthful effect.
A face lift can be done under local anesthesia with sedation or under general anesthesia. At Sacramento Ear, Nose and Throat Facial Plastic Surgery, many are done in our in-office surgical suite. The location where the face lift procedure is to be performed will depend on the type of procedure being done.
